OVERVIEW
The Tron Cryptocurrency App is a concept application for digital currency.
PROBLEM
As crypto technology continues to evolve and markets fluctuate, it was a design challenge to create a mobile application that solves multiple problems. Decentralized cryptocurrency can be traded on a multitude of desktop platforms, however, the number of available types of currency is limited.
SOLUTION
This app concept takes into consideration how people use crypto technology, fiat currency apps, and stock trading applications to discover what users need most from their own currency. The application was intended flexible for the extensive amount of different currencies available.
RESEARCH
Surveying those who use this type of cryptocurrency technology was the first step to know understand what issues might exist and how cryptocurrency is being interacted with. An online community of users was surveyed for their understanding, needs, and wants from an application that would be useful to them and a larger community of cryptocurrency users. A ten-question survey was made online and distributed to cryptocurrency users, where respondence gave thoughtful feedback to the questions and a summary of those results was made.
USER SURVEY
83 percent of respondents planned to increase the diversity of their cryptocurrency portfolio within the next year.
Though the current diversity of holders’ portfolios were low, they did plan to increase their portfolios in the future. This would require the expansion to include multiple cryptos outside of the main type used for this app.
66 percent were against giving up fiat currency altogether.
With over half of the holders interested in disregarding fiat currency, this would not completely eliminate the need for the type of currency within the app.
66 percent did not check the larger market of cryptocurrency outside of what they already owned.
The market volatility changes the price of each cryptocurrency frequently. Viewing the current price of crypto outside of what was owned was not a large need for these holders, which makes it easier to limit what is needed when viewing a constantly growing market of currencies.
77 percent use Paypal or Venmo as their main source of online currency transfer.
A large percentage of holders did use Paypal and Venmo as their main source for an application to transfer fiat currency online. This demonstrated that other apps were not as popular with holders.
50 percent of respondents only have one type of currency.
Half of the holders having one type of currency showed that there was not large diversity in crypto portfolios.
50 percent do not know how to claim cryptocurrency on their taxes.
Half of the respondents did not know how to manage taxation on their holdings. Providing holders with the ability to understand holdings to a deeper knowledge would be a problem the app may want to solve.
COMPETITOR ANALYSIS
Extensive competitor analysis was conducted on a diverse range of financial apps that accomplish multiple goals with cryptocurrency and fiat currency. The applications analyzed accomplished the goals of transferring, trading stocks, tracking stock markets, tracking cryptocurrency markets, and holding cryptocurrency portfolios. Six apps were taking into consideration to understand their useful and problematic features, as well as their successful usability and interface difficulties.
Coinbase is the most used app to buy and sell cryptocurrency in the United States and was analyzed for its popularity. Venmo was analyzed due to it being one of the top fiat transfer apps. Delta is a market and manual crypto portfolio tracking app. This app was analyzed for its ability to provide updates on a volatile market for almost all cryptocurrencies on the market. Xapo is a Bitcoin wallet app that allows transfers, chat, physical payment cards, and more. Xapo was analyzed to understand different types of crypto wallets. Cash App is now the most used fiat transfer app and now allows only Bitcoin to be bought and sent. Multiple fiat currency applications were compared. Robinhood is a stock buying and trading application. This app now allows the buying and selling of select cryptocurrency as well as stock and was analyzed to compare a stock market to a crypto market.

DEVELOP + DESIGN
Prioritizing what features are necessary for the ideated prototype should solve problems and aim to be more effective than what is currently on the market. The analyzed applications may achieve one task well and not incorporate other tasks within that app. The features that were included after analyzing other apps were categorized to their level of necessity. Features that were categorized as important were those that should be incorporated into the minimum value product. The features that were categorized as unique were those that would allow the MVP to be an original application. Those that were categorized as unessential features were not fully considered for the prototype.
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
The information architecture of the Tron App was simplified to only be 4 links deep to avoid any excessive links within a phone application. It also includes only three tabs (Home, Wallet, and Market) on the main navigation. This creates a simple structure to accomplish tasks faster.
HI-FI PROTOTYPE
A hi-fi prototype was made in Adobe XD and linked to multiple people for testing. This allowed for instant feedback on how the app functioned, looked, and felt to the tester. After feedback was acquired the app was redesigned to fit the user’s needs. This included eliminating any barriers and unnecessary features.
